During our stamps design module we were lucky enoughto get a talk from Susan Sex, one of Ireland's foremost botanical artists. She spoke to us about her series of Irish wilflower stamps she was commisioned to design by An Post. She talked us through each stage of her watercolour paintings and how she planned out when to paint each plant in it's season. We got to see lots of her previsional sketches and paintings and how she figured out the composition of her stamps. We also learned how she dealt with finding images that still held well when reduced to stamp size. Overall, I found her talk helpful and interesting and loved the beautiful detail of her paintings.
