Breaking Records

To give my place setting the finished look, I decided to bbuy a real record to break. It took a while for it to snap at first, but then I got into it giving a definite cracked look.

As an altenative placemat to a scruffy Geldof style fabric, I came up with the idea of using a calender. This way I could easily incorporate two big sections of Bob's life, his bands most famous song, "I Don't like Mondays" and the Live Aid concert. I did this by printing out the month of July from 1985 and circling the date of the concert, the 13th, and by scribbling out all the Mondays with a black permanent marker.

Another update I made to the design of my original prototype was with the cutlery. Instead of just cover the handles in "band aids", I decided to use the pinstripe material that I got my hands on, as a napkin to wrap around my cutlery. I then incorporated the band aid idea by using it to hold the napkin closed.

Thumbnails

To start my design process I drew out another mind map to do with objects I could use and then did thumbnail drawings from it.

Celebrity Come Dine With Me

For this project we were each given a different celebrity and we were aked to design a place setting for them portraying their personality. We were allowed to use anything except for the name of our celebrity. So I started off with doing a lot of research into my celebrity, Bob Geldof. I must I really enjoyed this part of the process. I found the life of Geldof really interesting and it gave me alot of material to work with.

Letterheads

So I took my final logo and started to apply it to letterheads in different ways to see what I could come up with.

I also look at two alternative design for the back of my stationary.

Oriental Texture

Before moving on from the circles idea, I experimented with adding some texture to the circles to give it an extra oriental feel. But I felt this kind of design was too decorative and took from my typeface. This is why I decided to go with one of my designs reversed out of the squares.
